If it started out okay between themâif theyâre wary of each other but theyâre both young and untested and trying to prove themselves and eventually fall into a rapport. It turns out they work well together. And well, theyâre both so damn lonely that the camaraderie becomes more.
But Snoke canât allow Kylo to form any real bonds, least of all with Hux whoâs an obvious snake in the grass, so he starts driving a wedge between them. And theyâre both insecure messes and bad communicators and donât know what theyâre doing so they get in their own way, too.
So by the time Starkiller is complete, theyâre at each otherâs throats and plotting against one another. Itâs worse than a normal rivalry because they know each other SO WELL, both of them know exactly which bruises to pressâand do.
Plus they canât really stay away, can they?

Then Jakku happens and everything really goes to shit. Kylo kills Snoke, which should be the end of itâafter all, Snoke divided themâbut he doesnât know how to get back to what they were. Hux snaps at him and he lashes out back and they go around like that for a while.
But maybeâand weâre obviously diverging here but whateverâmaybe after one late night working on strategy, Kylo wants Hux to stay for a drink. And Hux treats it like an order, which upsets Kylo, and they finally get into it, wading through the debris of everything they were.
Itâs much more tentative than they ever were, and theyâre very much on eggshells around each other and thereâs still Crait to get past.
(The secondary result is that the Order functions so much better when the two of them are getting along but no oneâs brave enough to say that.)
