Farmwork is backbreaking, skilled labour that is often paid in piecework (flats of berries, they haunt my dreams) that results in you earning significantly less than minimum wage, and I find it extremely funny to picture a bunch of suburban teens following the PM& #39;s advice.
TFWs are treated appallingly / have by far the worst conditions of any farm workers, but the locals who work there also experience horrific conditions & extremely low pay. My sister was in a pressure-washer accident at 15 on a chicken farm & it burned her overall *to her body*.
Once a girl who worked at the tomato farm with me when I was 12 or so fainted from heat exhaustion, was immediately fired, and my 17 year old brother had to carry her to her home. I just don& #39;t see Christine from Markham letting her kid do that, you know?
AGAIN, it& #39;s far worse for migrant farmworkers who are paid even less and have no rights -- but even locals (working-class teens and rural transients usually) can be completely destroyed by it. Know guys in their 30s with permanent back injuries from priming tobacco.
