Why are waltzes so pleasant? I noticed that a disproportionate amount of the pieces I like that are classical, jazz or movie soundtracks are waltzes. That seems like it must mean something.

Is it just historiographic? Like because waltzes were popular in a time that's old and feels quaint, I like the quaint feelings it gives me? Would I not have such feelings otherwise? Like at some point waltzes much have felt like the "Scotch Snap" rap of their day.
