We, the members of One Herald Guild, unequivocally support the unionization efforts of our colleagues at the @BHnewsguild and @IdahoNewsGuild. We demand that @McClatchy recognize them. Here’s why:

Our colleagues deserve the rights of union protection now more than ever. Not only is McClatchy in bankruptcy, its reporters are now working on the frontlines of a dangerous pandemic.

Especially now, staffers in Bradenton and Boise deserve safeguards from layoffs and buyouts. Readers who depend on their journalism deserve that too.

There is no excuse for any delay: 94% of the staff across Boise and Bradenton are in favor of their unions. Forcing them to an election during the current crisis is a cruel delay.  

We won in Miami. We will win in Bradenton. We will win in Boise. But there is no time to waste.

Listen to your journalists, McClatchy. Not to the aggressive hedge fund preparing to slash our newsrooms and hurt our journalism if they buy us out. Show the public that you care about its right to stay informed.
