Vice Documentary on the Rise of Fascist Hindutva Regime in India:

A lot of y'all were looking for some of my thoughts on this documentary. Under Fair Use policy of the Canadian Copyright Act. I will be sharing some vids along with some context.

1/n
This documentary garnered a lot of buzz on social media. Specifically, for the statement by @Swamy39 that “All people are not equal” when asked by @IsobelYeung. I will be unpacking some of these in context of the rise of Fascism in world’s largest democracy.

2/n
The documentary begins with scenes of protests against the Citizenship Amendment Bill recently enacted by the Indian parliament where the Fascist Hindutva regime has gained a clear majority riding on widespread populism and religious polarization. Vid1

3/n
Modi’s BJP party is heavily inspired by the RSS a fascist ethno-religious nationalist organization that itself borrows heavily from the Nazi ideology of race supremacy and blood purity. Muslims are seen as invaders who must be eliminated -violently if needed. Vid2

4/n
The protests by students – especially from the traditionally Muslim universities – were brutally suppressed by the state forces. When protests escalated countrywide, the fascists militias – in a bid to suppress the movement – started a pogrom of Muslims in Delhi.

5/n
. @RanaAyyub says that she hasn’t seen anything more traumatizing in her years as a journalist in India. This are serious words from someone who started her career as an investigative journalist in the 2002 Gujarat pogrom where more than 2000 people were murdered. Vid3

6/n
. @RanaAyyub – this democracy is no longer a democracy. The Hindutva government, akin to the white supremacist movement, has made the majority ruling class as the victim of seculiarism and reservations for marginalized minorities and lower castes.

7/n
The Fascist Hindutva regime lies through its teeth to obfuscate the issues and escalate the hatred against Muslim minorities. They have started huge projects for building concentration camps for Muslims who will eventually be disenfranchised by the CAA act.

8/n
The extent of marginalization is evident from the fact that even the workers who are building these concentration camps are aware that they’ll be living there. For those who’ve forgotten, the Nazi concentration camps also ran on cheap Jewish labor. Vid 4

9/n
The requirements of proving citizenship are particularly onerous for any Indian. But because only Muslims are excluded from the ambit of CAA, they are the only community living under constant dread of being excluded from Indian citizenship. Vid 5

10/n
The bureaucratic nightmare that those excluded from the Citizenship register would make Kafka look like a walk in the park on a clear and sunny Indian morning. Bureaucrats are evaluated based on their success in excluding people from the register. Vid 6

11/n
. @swamy39 is not being cute or deceptive in this clip. He’s just stating a fact – that their government got a majority mandate based on its promises that it would persecute Muslims. The majority Hindu community gave them that mandate

12/n
Even if that mandate will forever, irrevocably change the soul of India as an equal, democratic country which promised – at least on paper – the equality of its citizen under law. . @swamy39 regurgitates more anti-Muslim propaganda.

13/n
Thus the protests continued at different places in India. The marginalized Muslims have taken this existential challenge to their very identity. .RanaAyyub ends by saying that the very soul of India is at stake. VID 7

14/n
Thank you @VICE for airing this. Thank you @IsobelYeung and @RanaAyyub for your courageous reporting.

A special place in hell for @swamy39 and all fascist minions and their enablers in India.

Please RT and ask everyone to watch this very informative episode.
