Want to hear a story about racism? Sure you do: This is Twitter.

I live in a small town in the southern US. The racial demographics are about half black/half white. These are also approximately the same for the rest of the county. The same for this whole region of the state.
Our superintendent of schools is a lady who’s generally well-thought by the community, including by her school staff.

PLUS she’s got a PhD. And let me tell you: in a tiny town where anyone could name at least 4 folks who couldn’t even spell PhD reliably, that’s a prize.
She was fired about a month ago, after a push from the head of the school board.

She is suing the City for wrongful termination, on the grounds of racism.

Just like half the population here, she’s black.
The head of the school board — the very guy who is alleged to have pushed for her termination is black, too.

It seems that after they first hired her, he met with her and explained that he wanted her to fire some of the white school staff and hire black ones.
He supposedly told her white teachers weren’t able to teach black students, at least not adequately.

And also provided a list of black teachers/staff she could hire as their replacements.
She claims that when she pointed out some of these candidates didn’t even have teaching certificates, he told her as administrator she could hire and fire as she saw fit and work the details out later.
Which she did not do on the grounds that:

A) firing ppl because of their race is fucked up.
And B) His whole plan looked like RE-segregation and had he ever even heard of the civil rights movement?
The scuttlebut is that after few years of not firing whichever specific teachers this guy had wanted replaced, she even hired a new principal who was white.

And then she was eventually fired.
She is suing not for money but for her job back.

I’ll say there’s likely to be more to this than what I hear or read in the local news. I mean, there always is.

But still, it does my heart good to know the system still has ppl who’ve dug in. Ready. Determined.
This kind of bullshit isn’t supposed to happen in my town. I’m an ignorant assed red neck from the sticks, so what are the odds that I am ever going witness to foolishness like this supposed “edge-case” issue?
Rather, maybe I oughta say *perceived* odds?

“Edge-case”? I’ve personally been witness to too much of this judo-justice, where the “fair spirit” of some rule was used against the people it was supposedly designed to protect.

Edge-case’s ass.

So: Good for you, Dr. Lady. Thanks.
