Ok so #Denmark is doing a gradual reopening after Easter. This provides a glimpse into life post 1st #COVID19 wave ...a #thread.
#Denmark opted for a very cautious reopening with daycares and students in grades 0 through 5 returning to school. Essentially a testing of the waters with kids that age the least at risk of getting #coronavirus compared to older children and adults.
All other restrictions remain in place. #Denmark’s borders remain closed. Most businesses, restaurants, & public services, like libraries, remain closed until at least May. Public workers will remain working from home. Those in the private sector are encouraged to stay home but..
Danish PM Mette Frederiksen says more buses and trains will be added into the system by April 15th especially in urban areas like #Copenhagen to allow for #socialdistancing as - some - people return to work. #Denmark #coronavirus
So in May a decision will be made on 2nd phase of a reopening if the #coronavirus numbers hold. The most telling decision was to continue the ban on large gatherings until Aug 31st, which shutters pretty much every major tourist attraction in the country during the prime season.
Danish PM Mette Frederiksen warned Danes life would not return to “normal.” We must remember until there is a treatment and especially until there is a vaccine life will not be “normal.” And the economic pain, and aid to keep things afloat, will be immense. #Denmark #coronavirus
While there will be country to country variations of restarting the economy what will happen next will likely be mostly very cautious countries, and some overly eager, nervously watching for #coronavirus within its borders and especially from any reinfection threats from outside
You can expect some hefty travel restrictions & likely monitoring and/or testing up to mandated quarantines for travelers from a country with an outbreak. Add in a lot of people too nervous to travel. Basically the international 2020 tourism season is effectively canceled
That means from airlines to cruise ships and anything relying on tourists the pain will be brutal and it will not be going away anytime soon. Tourism strategies will have to be redrawn on the fly to factor in all precautions and to fish for more local visitors. #coronavirus
It might also mean some insane travel deals as operators try and entice people to jump on that flight or cruise ship but the long term picture is still extremely clouded not to mention for large attractions like your Disneyland or Legoland etc. #coronavirus
Until there is a vaccine life will certainly not be “normal” there will be massive challenges and change but also opportunity and innovation. Major rethinks will have to happen on supply chains and pandemic preparation. Interesting times ahead. End.
