As #CERB applications commenced - I noticed some concerning messages and misinformation; particularly about the circumstances facing post-secondary students. Now more than ever it is critical that we call out mis-information in our social feeds. 1/
Myth: 1 "No student qualifies for #CERB"
This is not true. While not all students qualify, many do - students who have held jobs in the past 12 months & meet the $5K threshold, parents or caregivers, students who are sick. CERB does not cover everyone - but (cont'd) 2/

you are not disqualified simply for being a student. Every circumstance is different, please check you eligibility online at @ESDC_GC: https://www.canada.ca/en/services/benefits/ei/cerb-application.html 3/
Myth 2: No one is hiring
This is misleading. While we are facing an unprecedented job shortage and many well paying, full and part-time positions have been eliminated - some companies are still hiring. If you are a student looking for work don't give up looking. 4/

@LinkedIn has a great live feed of companies that are hiring during #COVID19 - check it out here: https://www.linkedin.com/feed/news/whos-hiring-in-canada-4531435/ 5/
Myth 3: Students have been forgotten intentionally
I hope this isn't true & I don't believe it is. @JustinTrudeau announced that more work is being done to support young people during this pandemic - information available in the coming days: https://www.ctvnews.ca/health/coronavirus/trudeau-says-help-coming-for-students-unable-to-find-summer-jobs-1.4883310 6/

We've never experienced anything like this. So far government response has been nimble. We went from #EI to #CERB, a 10% wage subsidy to a 75% wage subsidy - if anything this shows that our leaders are listening and adapting. 7/
I can't say for certain that no one will fall through the cracks but, I am optimistic that Canadian's will do what we always do - take care of each other. Optimism, patience, and empathy is what will bring us through. 8/8
