During this difficult time, we are working around the clock to make sure that the needs of all Torontonians are met. This includes developing a Food Security Strategy to make sure everyone has access to healthy food, and no one goes hungry.
The City, Red Cross & United Way are providing food hamper delivery to seniors over 70 and others in need who are unable to leave their homes. Beginning tomorrow, call at 1-833-204-9952 to register for a delivery. This is a free service - no cost for groceries or delivery.
We’ve also opened four @torontolibrary locations to host local food banks, in partnership with @nyhfb and @DailyBreadTO. Eventually nine library locations will be open across the city, along w/ food banks in some TCHC buildings and community centres.
The City is also working with the Food for Kids program, to get grocery gift cards to families of children in need. And we’re supporting the Toronto Aboriginal Support Services Council to coordinate food access for Indigenous communities.
The best source for up-to-date information on food program availability is http://211toronto.ca . Food listings are updated daily. Residents can call 211 directly, or view the map of open food bank locations at: https://covid19.211central.ca/gta-food-banks/
We must all do what we can to support those in need. Reach out to your friends and neighbours to offer help, and to ask for help during this time. You can donate directly to food banks or drop off non-perishable food at local fire halls. Let's continue to take care of each other.
