"An intelligently planned lockdown instead of a complete lockdown is a much better option," says Zaid Bashir, the founder of Ideas–the retail wing of GulAhmed. https://www.dawn.com/news/1546705
I have the honor of working for Ideas. Ziad Bashir knows how to invest in an idea. Over the last two years, he is spearheading the digital transformation for Ideas. Almost every aspect of retail is getting revamped at GulAhmed because of him.
Had the lockdown been a little more managed, businessmen like Ziad would've been able to keep the economy going. I cannot vouch for other parts of the company, but where I worked the admin department provided masks and installed hand sanitizers for everyone.
Every employee's temperature was taken through a thermal scanner. Meeting rooms were locked and work from home option was provided. Instead of locking up the factories, the Sindh government could've arranged a system where all employees were tested for Covid-19.
Many businessmen would have happily shared the cost in order to keep their factories open. Company provided transportation and shelter could have also been discussed. If a lockdown had to be put in place, it could've been done in a humane manner.
Views that I have shared in this thread are mine and are not associated with anyone from GulAhmed and Ideas.
That disclaimer was necessary because I am going to say a few spicy things about the Sindh government. And, I know their tea boys and girls are always watching.
From the very first day, CM Sindh Murad Ali Shah and his team have tried to set a precedent of "the leadership with experience in their side." Hell no! The famine in Thar and HIV cases in Ratodero are failures of this very same setup.
And guess what. They are setting up the entire province for another disaster. From lying about the kits to "not a curfew, it's care for you", CM Sindh Murad Ali Shah has only tried to gain political validation.
The entire lockdown has been failure. Roam around in the Liberty Chowrangi or Lyari, you will see that there was no enforcement of social distancing. Even their Friday curfew was a sham because several masjids conducted Jummah prayers one way or the other.
Every supermarket in Karachi is flooding with people. Why? Because CM Murad Ali Shah hindered home deliveries from the likes of Daraz, MandiExpress, and HumMart. These companies could've been trained to pack up groceries in a more responsible manner.
Careem, Foodpanda, and Bykea riders could've been used for delivery boys for stores like Imtiaz and Chase. The app which was supposed to create a record of people leaving homes was never rolled out successfully.
Mayor of Karachi was missing at all times. CM Sindh should have tasked the Mayor with the responsibility of getting a few things done. Look at Italy! The mayors were given the responsibilities to ensure social distancing.
Furthermore, it seems PPP was more focused on Karachi this time round. From what I have heard from a few friends, other parts of Sindh totally continued with their way of lives.
From miscounting the number of cases to blatantly lying about the number of testing kits to not reporting anything for 2 days, the PPP-led provincial government is nothing but a bunch of buffoons. They are playing a danger of perception making during these testing times.
CM Sindh Murad Ali Shah should realize that he is no Anil Kapoor and this pandemic is not a Bollywood movie. He should plan better for the coming days. Arrange more kits. Test. Test. Test.
Ramadan is coming and you do not want Covid-19 case lingering around the markets. Your 15-minutes-of-fame are over which you tried to score by testing Zaireen. It was something that proposed and planned.
