Imagine the twisted minds at MoD and Sena Bhawan that when we are losing precious lives along the LoC, these guys are ordering 400 more T-90S for multi billion $$. Which 20th century tank war are we preparing for when the enemy is full on subconventional warfare in Kashmir?
Which brings me to my old question: Are getting equipments for the environment we face and the tactics we decide for it or are the tactics being decided based on the equipment in the market that was developed for different environments? https://twitter.com/cvkrishnan/status/1123548400824111105?s=21
For far too long we’ve let the Western and Russians decide the paradigm of war and the way to be fought and the weapons developed were based on those. They did what’s needed for their wars. We need to develop new weapons and equipments for our environment.
We face a half year snow 5000 m above sea level conventional cum subconventional enemy along a partially fenced border where air superiority does not exist. Enemy is spread all across the LoC. Trying to fit made for Eastern European plains/ full air superiority gulf war weapons
Make little sense to this environment. We need to learn what the Americans did during the Vietnam Wars even though they lost. They went about developing weapons specific to the dense forest and guerilla warfare of the VietCongs in all three domains. That attitude is needed.
Even when there existed as much as 10 different attack aircraft designs from the WW-2 and Korean War experiences the Americans continued to develop new aircrafts specific to the Vietnam war, rather than changing tactics to suit the equipments they had. That’s how you change the
rules of the game. Right now, they buy tanks we buy tanks. They buy ATGMs and attack helps we buy too. They use artillery we use artillery. Stalemate for decades. The only person going home happy is the Western and Chinese military industrial complex.
The need of the hour is for our Army to think beyond weapons and to think of strategy & tactics independent of weapons. Then the requirement will define itself. it is for the DRDO or pvt sector to develop. The Army must be tech savvy to be a development partner giving user data.
