Some of you are only proud to be Igbo for the aesthetic and clout. You’ll throw on isi agu, mkpara in hand, cap on your head, and the caption “Igbo kwenu”. But you have no interest to learn about your people, language and culture.
There’s a big difference between someone who is proud to be Igbo, doesn’t know much about the language and culture, but has a desire to immerse themselves in the culture and to learn. This is more so those who are using being Igbo to do shakara but could honestly care less.
But on the bright side, I’m just happy there’s a decrease in the amount of people that were like “Yeah ... My name is Ndidiamaka but call me Didi. My parents are Igbo/Nigerian but I’m American though”. Because those were the worst ones.
For ndi Igbo mu that always wanted to learn and are doing what they can, na aga n’iru. Jisike! You’ve only failed yourself when you’ve decided not to try at all. Here’s the link to a Google folder I made back when I was teaching classes. Happy learning! 🤍

Also, because I know some of you vex without properly reading, there’s no problem in shortening your name (the Ndidiamaka tweet). Clearly I’m talking about those that shorten their names as a way to detach from their Igbo identity; hence why I wrote “I’m American though”. Duh.
I’ve always been and will continue to be a resource for anyone interested to learn. A lot of my fellow fluent speakers are happy to help our fellow Igbo brothers and sisters. There’s no sense in bashing someone that has interest to learn. Only love and support xx
