in fact, here’s a tutorial!

labrys (aka butch) flag

- first lesbian flag
- largely by/for butches
- purple represents the butch/femme dynamic
- black triangle represents wwii oppression
- axe = labrys, symbol for lesbianism

(new) butch flag

- created because terfs took labrys
- the tones just mirror the pink lesbian flag to create a more masculine approach, so the same meanings apply

lesbian flag v1

- no it was not made by a terf
- it was made by someone who supposedly said racist comments, so while there is no confirmation or proof, it’s p much the less preferred flag

lesbian flag v1.2

- ok THIS one was made by a terf
- she literally took the flag and put a lip on it for lipstick/femme lesbians
- no one uses this flag because. its weird idk

lesbian flag v2

- uses the same format as v1
- top-bottom it means: gnc lesbians, independence, community, unique sense of womanhood, serenity/peace, love/sex, femininity
- not the most popular bc lack of inclusion for transbians + ace lesbians

lesbian flag v3

- nowadays the most popular flag because of its inclusivity and simplicity
- top-bottom it means: transgressive womanhood, community, gnc and trans lesbians, freedom, love

lesbian flag v1 was made bc the labrys flag felt like it was for butches (although it wasnt the intention) and was supposedly made by a man (though i cant find proof of that). flag v1 is mostly for femme/androgynous lesbians, which is part of the reason its unpopular

additionally, “transgressive womanhood” and “unique sense of womanhood” largely refers to butch/androgynous lesbians who still use she/her pronouns, while “gender non conforming lesbians” speaks more to lesbians who do not exclusively use she/her or do not use it at all
