1. We know you& #39;ve been overwhelmed with #Coronavirus news, & it’s hard to know what& #39;s real and what& #39;s not. We want to make sure you know just how real and widespread the effects of this pandemic are on OUR people. Trust us, the realities go beyond conspiracy. Let’s dive in.
2. #Healthcare: Our communities were already at risk in an anti-Black healthcare system. Now, with The Rona overwhelming the healthcare industry, devouring resources, and limiting capacities for care, we can expect even worse care of Black people.
3. #OurDemocracy: Because of The Rona, states are pushing back primary dates, eliminating polling locations, and being altogether shady. We must be vigilant! Suppression of the Black vote is still a cause for concern during this public health crisis.
4. #Economy: Many of the industries that our people are most represented in are being hit hard. Every day, people are losing their jobs. And others are being forced to decide b/t going to work & risking their health and the health of others or staying at home, without income.
5. #Education: Schools around the country have closed, which means that for a lot of kids, their education is on hold, they have no supervision, and/or they are going without the 1 or 2 meals they received at school each day.
6. The Trump administration has extended social distancing guidelines through 4/30. Trump has also signed the largest bailout bill in U.S. history & while a lot of families will receive checks, a lot of people won’t, incl. undocumented immigrants & people who owe child support.
7. The unfortunate thing about all of this is that U.S. leaders knew about The Rona becoming a potential pandemic back in January. Instead of prepping the nation, Trump downplayed it.
