Right! I've given this a LOT of thought. Here's why having the Lockdown phase right now, is actually not all bad. it's the second most favourable option out of the four, and here's why ... [thread]
Break the year into its four seasons quarters:
March April May (spring) | June July August (summer) | September October November (autumn) | December January February (winter)
March April May (spring) | June July August (summer) | September October November (autumn) | December January February (winter)
The WORST time to be having this would be winter. Christmas would be cancelled, you couldn't go andparty for new years eve, it's dark, cold, wet, miserable. If you're trapped inside, i'd rather be looking at a bright sunny day than a grey winter one
The SECOND to worst time would be summer. Boom! Literally, all of summer gone, peak August holiday season for families, tourist attractions that rely on money for their business, etc ... that would be devastating.
The THIRD to worse is then what we're having now. It's not winter, but it is ruining spring just as it's nice - and we all really hope that this doesn't carry on into summer. Fingers crossed, we might get July and August (and maybe even a sunny September?) to play with
The LEAST worse would actually be autumn, we've had a nice spring and summer, colder weather is here, everyone goes inside and wrap up warm ... and we then get it out of the way, and it's all cleared up in time for Christmas, and we can have one hell of a party to celebrate!!
Also, if it were deep winter there'd be regular colds and flu going round, which would add to the misery and the pressure on our magnificent NHS.
There. That's just me theory. In case your thinking "this sucks", it does, yes. But it could so easily have been at a worse time of year ...
Note how it's not cyclical - 1 and 2 are opposite, and 3 and 4 are opposite. Feel free to disgree below though ...
