Spoke to my partner today, a nurse, at the end of her 12 hour shift looking after ICU patients. She sobbed. Last night before her shift she told me how scared she is. Today she cried with frustration and sadness having seen so many people die alone from this awful virus.
She has seen healthy people essentially suffocate and knows that some of her patients are going to die. Many of her colleagues have caught Covid-19 including one who is pregnant. There are babies who are being born with symptoms! She wept with
Sadness for those who have and will die alone, for the families who won’t get to say goodbye and for her own family - her mum, dad and son who she lives with. She has been looking for an apartment to move into to reduce the risk of giving it to her family. She hasn’t kissed
Or hugged her son in a good while and doesn’t know when she will be able to. We have no idea when we’ll see each other next. Today, knowing her patient will soon die, she did her job to make him as comfortable as possible, seeing the fear in his eyes. Then leaves work to see
Insta stories of friends out and about chilling by the canal with beers and a picnic. This is shit is real. Please, please just stay at home.
That’s all we have to do. If we don’t there will be more deaths, a second spike, maybe even a third. I’ll even give you my Netflix account, just stay at home! Give our doctors and nurses a chance to fight this.
