I've made a conscious decision that I won't retweet tweets mourning the loss of love ones to COVID-19, with the possible exception of people I know personally (should that happen). However, I pass no judgement on those who choose to do so. 1/x
This isn't an attempt, on my part, to stick my head in the sand, but it is an attempt to manage my own mental health. I'd like to think that I'm human enough to recognize that there are real people behind the numbers, and I'd like to think the same goes for my followers. 2/x
I don't need to be hammered with countless examples to know that this tragedy is real, and I see some truly negative personal consequences to enduring that onslaught over the long term. Again, YMMV, and I don't criticize anyone who chooses a different path.

One last consideration: this kind of tragedy draws damaged attention seekers out of the woodwork. I don't have the time or energy to verify every account I read, & I don't want to feed the illness of someone who publishes a bogus account in an effort to harvest attention.
