Reasons why I love Simon Snow and why he is underappreciated (but he's getting more recognition!) I am going to be talking about everything so don't exactly expect rainbows
His personality: he is a dorky dumbass with a heart of gold. But is also a disaster. He had feelings for Baz and mistook them for hatred. For me, this is relatable. I am mostly oblivious with romance as most people I know. This was an automatic win and I've laughed so much
over it. He has an obsession with butter and scones and it's funny to read about. Because of this, he probably appeared as a goofball and was moved aside. Baz has a more flamboyant personality and struck people as a favorite. I used to be one of those people.
Also, Baz's pov was just entertaining to read in the first place. The way he was thirsting over Simon is burned into our brains, but sometimes we forget it. A lot of the fandom also seems to forget that Baz is just much of a disaster as Simon. He had a crush on Simon so he pushed
him down the stairs. He was in love with Simon but still cruel to him. Baz also had a habit of watching Simon sleep. He was always watching Simon and noticed everything about him. Any romantic feelings he played off as hatred. That is a very disaster gay thing to do.
AND HE ALSO DID IT FOR A REASON!! BAZ WAS THE ONE WHO WAS HEAD OVER HEELS FIRST. He fell in love with Simon and thought he wouldn't survive. Why would that be? Oh yeah, cause Simon is fucking amazing. This is Baz we're talking about. He doesn't exactly do things just because
Now lets talk about Wayward Son. This is when I started to love Simon as much as I do. He sacrificed his livelihood, the thing that made him Simon Snow. That is going to have consequences. He cant pretend nothing happened, none of them can, because what happened is that he lost
his magic and he lost his mentor. And it was his fault. But his mentor also only saw him for his power. To the Mage, Simon was only the Chosen One. So he treated him as such and focused on turning him into a weapon instead of seeing him for who he was. Even everyone else
saw him as the Chosen One or the Mages Heir. When he lost his magic, it was devastating to know everything he was raised for is gone. Everything he was supposed to be was wiped out. Simon wasn't used to having people around for who he is (we all know how penny can get and how
obsessed she is with magic). His true colors started showing. He's selfless and strong, and smarter than we know. He gave everything to do what's right and he tried to see a therapist but it wasn't working. He loves Baz so much that he thinks Baz deserves someone better than him
and is willing to let him go (actually he wants to). His mental health is declining, but it doesn't stop him from helping his friends. Hell, he hates himself, but it never stops him from being selfless and sacrificing everything. And it's realistic!! He is depressed
and cant see how incredible (also how gorgeous) he is. For people who were mad about how he went about with his relationship with Baz, that is not something to be avoided and it is very realistic. He's in a low place and he /knows/ he's never going to have someone like Baz again
but hes willing to let him go if it means Baz can find someone better or not have to feel like he has to care of Simon. (also when baz was teaching Simon how to drive is way underrated. Baz was so soft and it was a side of their relationship we don't really see)
Also also, during the faire, Simon was so happy and he felt so light because he was in his element again! And I love that scene! He started making out with baz because he was so happy and he loves his boyfriend so much. He was focused and smart. That was what he was raised to do
Bottom line is, Simon is a dumbass, but can still be smart. He sacrifices everything for the people he loves. The way he's acting is accurate and if that makes you mad, then too bad. He loves his boyfriend so so much. he lost everything but it still muddling through
We just need to be patient and hope we can see him happy in Any Way The Wind Blows
