to be clear there& #39;s already a k-word lmao and if you have a metal in your last name you get to see it a LOT on this website!!
I did see one of the people railing against & #39;Karen& #39; also say that & #39;Becky& #39; is antisemitic which is crazy because I have only ever met gentile Beckys. I feel like Jewish Rebeccas/Rebekahs always go full-name or Becca/Bekah? Am I crazy? This is obviously anecdotal.
Rebecca is different from “Becky”, esp in this context which is American in derivation and comes from AAVE. In American lit Becky Thatcher of Tom Sawyer is certainly not meant to be Jewish. In your British ex, neither are Becky Sharp or Rebecca de Winter. https://twitter.com/yourgaycousin/status/1247244957489872897?s=21">https://twitter.com/yourgayco... https://twitter.com/yourgaycousin/status/1247244957489872897">https://twitter.com/yourgayco...
The only example I can really think of is Rebecca from Ivanhoe, who would never be called “Becky”. As Jewish names for girls go, Rebecca is probably second only to Sarah in terms of Christians adopting it.
lmao but TRULY it screams WASP https://twitter.com/bentleyliz1/status/1247246853411872768?s=21">https://twitter.com/bentleyli... https://twitter.com/bentleyliz1/status/1247246853411872768">https://twitter.com/bentleyli...
I’ve never even met a CATHOLIC Becky
Interesting!! Okay this is something I didn& #39;t know. The person arguing this was British. But Americans calling white girls Becky are def not drawing on that. They are drawing on Sir Mix-A-Lot. If they wanted to call you a J.A.P. they would just say that. https://twitter.com/NicoleBurstein/status/1247245198431793153">https://twitter.com/NicoleBur...
