For ppl saying Zoom is ok for K-12 if you just have right settings to protect you from Zoombombers, you're fundamentally missing key questions ppl have about student data (& particularly student data for kids under 13) Zoom has contradictory policies all over the site
Thread
What types of licensees were set up at your school (basic, pro, business, enterprise, edu?) If you find out you received pro, why not edu?
This isn't a theoretical question, we found out Zoom was offering only pro for us. Why?
Are pro licenses used by schools covered under the school district K-12 privacy policy or do pro accounts have a separate privacy policy even if they're used by schools?
Zoom indicates licenses are COPPA compliant but only if school contractually consents on behalf of parents. What mechanism is contractual consent obtained with the licenses handed out to schools? Is a school district leader signing a formal contract? If not, does that void COPPA?
What effort has been made to reconcile the discrepancies between the site terms of service and the policies governing data of users under 18, especially in light of the lack of contract for most schools?
If users under 16 can't have accounts, but Zoom is being offered for use with K-12 schools, what are the Zoom COPPA policies for non-account holding data collection for students under 13? A lack of account does not exempt Zoom from COPPA if data collection is still occurring
If we are only creating accounts for teachers (which are pro) but students are using the service through basic/links only, which policy legally takes precedence?
How does Zoom reconcile the different policies governing teacher use (with student data) using Pro licenses and the data students provide when using Zoom (even if they have no account)?
Student data can be collected from teachers, not just via students.
Zoom techs are asserting Zoom is FERPA compliant, but that is not possible since Zoom is not a school. How well-versed are techs in the policies governing student data in ages 16 & under?
What training or guidance are Tier 1 Zoom tech staff receiving in order to be able to answer questions about privacy and policy correctly? Questions asked of Zoom support so far has resulted in different answers for different schools.
COPPA imposes certain requirements on operators of other websites or online services that have actual knowledge that they are collecting personal information online from a child under 13 years of age.” . Zoom is not currently compliant to those restrictions for children under 13
