(Almost) fully recovered from the wonderful engagement that was #WrestlePosiumI this past weekend. Videos will be coming out soon (although @ThePCSJ and #EatingFandom need to get done too). But now it's also back to work, teaching, grading, administrating -- all online...
Which brings me to an #onlinelearning suggestion, especially if you are having a hard time getting students to engage with the instructor and/or each other, either asynchronously through discussion boards or synchronously via Zoom, Skype, etc. #CovidCampus #AcademicTwitter
They may need guidelines or prompts as to how to interact in this online space. They have personal histories with the expectations for how to engage in physical classrooms, but they don't have as much experience, or as much consistent experience, doing the same in #onlineclasses.
You could require them to use any of the prompts at least 2-3 times, to the instructor and/or each other: ask a question, answer a question, give a suggestion, give an example, agree and explain why, disagree and explain why, relate to own work, relate to own life.
And make them requirements, even for small points, to ensure people do them, and all with proper netiquette applied (i.e. no harassment, trolling, flaming, disrespect, etc). Structure it into the discussion board discussion or require via voice and/or text chat for #teleclasses.
