One thing i like about Sougo is how Sorachi contrasts him with characters like Kamui and Nobume. Both Kamui and Nobume insisted that Sougo is the same as them, that he’s a fellow killer.
But we’re shown time to time that that’s not the case (to all 3 of them). No matter how cruel, sadistic, and a spoiled little brat he may come off as, he has a good heart deep down. And that’s all because of the guidance he received from Mitsuba, Hijikata and Kondo.
It just shows that without their influence, without these bonds Sougo formed, he could’ve went down the same path Kamui did. One of my favorite things in Gintama is how it reinforces the significance of human connection over and over and this is a great example of it.
