Here's why the current rabble rousing pile on is pissing me off at the moment. Matt Hancock, without being asked about football, pointed and at footballers and screamed it's their fault.
When asked a few days later about other big companies, specifically Virgin Atlantic, he replied declined to comment. Why?? The proverbial dead cat strategy perhaps?
Rather than actually answer questions on the crisis and how to protect our NHS staff, except for constant Churchillian slogans like "shoulders to the ramparts" (ffs!!), he deliberately chose to demonise the "pampered, overpaid, prima donnas"
Just like the fella we mentioned last week, Julian Knight MP. He said footballers should take pay cuts. In a "private" letter to the chancellor. Which magically appeared in the Telegraph. Oh, the pitchforks and mobs were in arms. Yeah they shouted!!
Now this MP, let's remember, recently cheered in the commons when a bill to give nurses a pay rise was defeated. Actually cheered. Plus he authors books advising on how to avoid inheritance tax. But hey - those footballers paying millions in tax to the NHS eh!
Back to the dead cat. They've thrown that dead cat on the floor Bob and you've picked it up like Jonah Lomu, raced toward the Premier League door. Totally ignoring the HUGE Virgin, Disney, BA doors and the massive one labelled shabby government.
Meanwhile, Matt Hancock and Mr Knight MP are sat in the VIP area watching you and the mob baying for blood. Sat there stroking a white cat like Blofield and chuckling away. It's worked, we can carry on being incompetant without anyone noticing.
Trouble is, some people do eventually cotton on that they are being conned because the incompetence is starting to affect them and they realise there are bigger demons than football. So what to do next. Start being competant or....
Wait... look at those nasty people in wheelchairs, they contribute nothing to society. They're a drain I tell you. they would take beds and resources our blond, blue eyed, healthy people could have. The mob shout yeah and away they go....and repeat....
I'm sure if Hitler, Gengis Khan and Stalin were around today they would be tweeting similar populist stuff on twitter . Because it's popular and people fall for it. Brexit anyone?. That's how it works. They wouldn't tweet about killing millions.
They'd tweet it's "they're" fault your life isn't utopian. And then have a photo op in the pub with a pint and a fag and a cheeky chappy man of the people quip. Not believing this guff themselves but laughing inside that people are so easily conned.
As for the moral high ground Bob, you started the thread by retweeting Collymore giving his usual populist, applause chasing tweet trying to get his likes on Twitter. I know he's a hero of yours but frankly I find him a scumbag - because he is.
Leaving aside it's the Scum, the facts aren't challenged. Wasted a career and he knows it, been bittter about it ever since. Not the moral gaurdian I would want to espouse. Let's not forget Ulrika's face after he gave her some of his morality.
And as Elmo pointed out yesterday, your crass comment about not wanting to talk about football because Doctors and Nurses are dying. Playing that joker after starting the thread asking for opinions on Stan's tweet... Really?
I suspect that if there was a football game on the TV next weekend of any standard, it would break TV records. People need a distraction. We can't cover ourselves in sackcloth and ashes and chant "oh woe is me" every day. Football is important.
And that's not to say that Stan, Hancock and Mr Knight MP don't have valid points. But clever politicians know to be careful who you quote and share platforms with. Realise that Hancock is slimy and crafty and threw that dead cat on the floor for a reason.
So you asked if I was a bit touchy earlier and yes - I apologise. I was. It was because I couldn't fathom how an intelligent guy like could be conned like this. Be angry with the things that Hancock doesn't want you to look at. The shambles he's part of.
I get it. You love football perhaps you think they should be held to a higher standard than tax exile Branson with his £4 billion personal fortune. Remember - Liverpool £42 million profit - projected loss of £137 million this year.
I honestly don't begrudge Branson that. I'm not Corbyn. And I think footballers deserve what they get paid. They've brought joy all my life. Nobody mentions Robert Downey getting $20 million for a movie but Jordan Henderson on £200k a week. Where's that mob?
Cancelling your Sky - fair enough. You feel "morally obliged". But aren't you open to hypocrisy the next time you book an airline, or go Disney or go and see Dr Strange 2 (Marvel profits $2.7 billion last year).
So again Bob, it's not that we don't agree, we do. Just save some of that that anger for the people who have played you so easily. There's bigger, badder wolves out there and not me for not being as morally outraged as you and Stan Collymore.
