There are too many bad ideas in here, it's disorienting

This thread is purely so I can get these thoughts out of my head.

1. Mounting evidence suggests that standardized testing isn't even helpful as *part* of the selection criteria for schools, jobs, etc, so why make it basically the only one here?

2. If they WERE so much more qualified than the people holding these positions normally, why wouldn't we just... hire them to do it?

3. Anyone who has any experience with change management knows that a time of crisis is exactly when you do not want to be dealing with transition in positions of decision-making authority.

4. If this is such a good idea why do we have any elected positions at all?
