You can read just about any article today and see some semblance of the same idea taking shape. Here it is, distilled to its core elements, with many variations on the theme.

Here's my take on the key elements:

1) Social distancing ( #FlattenTheCurve)
Maintain aggressive social for a few weeks so we: a) don’t overwhelm our healthcare system, b) get a sense of how big that first wave is, and c) buy ourselves time to activate all other areas,
4/n

2) Widescale Testing ( #TestTestTestTest)

This the only way we can move forward. It’s Business 101 - you can’t manage what you don’t measure.
5/n

3) National mobilization for healthcare ( #Surge)
Our frontline does not have the tools they need to protect themselves while protecting us. This is a gross failing. We need a ramp up of equipment to protect the workers- masks, gowns, face shields, goggles - and a ramp up...
6/n

... of capacity in equipment and space so they can help us. Namely, more ventilators and repurposing hotels and dorms and convention centers for surge capacity and isolating ‘mild’ cases for two weeks.
7/n

4) Economic stimulus ( #SaveWorkersAndSmallBusinesses)
We must support small businesses and workers. (I'm not economists, so will stick to my lanes, but it’s clear we need this happening at the same time as our medical and scientific surge happens)
8/n

5) Ramp up serological testing ( #KnowWhoHadIt)

We don’t just need to know who is currently infected, we need to also know who was previously infected.
9/n

6) Contact Tracing, Isolate the Sick, Quarantine Contacts ( #SparkControl)

Once widescale testing is is fully ramped up (#2), then we can finally go from national lockdown to targeted and strategic lockdown (where S. Korea is today)....
10/n

...This is akin to running around a dry forest looking for any little spark and putting it out, then pouring water all around it for a half mile radius just to be sure, all to prevent a massive forest fire. Right now our approach is to treat the whole damn forest.

7) Personal behavior change ( #PublicHealth101)
Social distancing also needs to be accompanied by behavior changes – we can all do our part. This gets back to the basics of public health, and we’ve all heard this a million times already....
12/n

It’s so important, I'm going to say it again - wash your hands, cover your cough, stay 6 feet away from others, and yes, wear a mask when you’re out. It’s the end of handshakes. Think of all of these as a layered defense. Each little bit helps.
13/n

8) Plan for the endgame ( #CovidEndGame)
The final endgame is a vaccine. But that isn’t coming for 18 months. We will all have to get used to periods of localized social distancing, wearing facemasks in public, de-densifying our schools and offices...
14/n

...staying 6 feet from people. And maybe, just maybe, we get lucky and hit a homerun before 18 months with a scientific breakthrough. Areas to keep an eye on are new medical treatments, repurposing old drugs, more clever ‘adaptive’ isolation and quarantine approaches...
15/n

... like the use of mobile phones and technology to assist contact tracing and quarantine, convalescent serum transfusion, other clever ideas in their infancy. And maybe we’ll catch some dumb luck...
16/n

...possibly in the form of summer heat/humidity bringing us a 3 month reprieve. We must continue to put in the intellectual and scientific work here.
17/n

We have built a magnificent scientific machine in this country - if we put our collective efforts on solving this one problem, amazing solutions, that we cannot predict today, will emerge. #CovidEndgame
