You know that feeling you’re feeling right now? Maybe it’s numbness or general overwhelm. Maybe it’s striking lack of motivation. Could be anxiety, stress, depression, panic, etc. You may be experiencing #VicariousTrauma 1/
#VicariousTrauma can happen to anyone exposed in any way to a traumatic experience. Guess what, a pandemic is freaking traumatic. It doesn’t matter if you are a frontline worker or someone safe in their home, you could be having a trauma response 2/
While front line workers are more likely to develop an acute traumatic response (& later PTSD), the rest of society is more likely to experience #VicariousTrauma bc you are witnessing & hearing about trauma around you & it impacts you whether you are directly involved or not 3/
So, if you can’t bring yourself to work on that dream project, read a book, watch your favorites series, etc or you find yourself suddenly experiencing feelings of fear and dread out of proportion to your current circumstances, give yourself some grace. #VicariousTrauma 4/
You are experiencing trauma and it is not over. You are still living it. #VicariousTrauma can impact you long after the trauma is over and it isn’t over yet. So, what can you do? Acknowledge that this is a perfectly normal and natural response to the circumstances 5/
