It is usual for ivy to lose a proportion of its old, yellowing leaves in late spring but something different seems to be happening this year. Wholescale die-back, often associated with this phenomenon - dying of leaves starting with browning from leaf tips.
Up until 2018, ivy seemed to be getting more abundant and vigorous in the landscape. Its vigour declined in 2019, something I explained on the dry season. Is something else going on with ivy? Too early to tell but I will be interested to keep an eye on it.
