Corporate entities churn profits every single minute of the day and have been doing so for decades now. But throw a spanner in the works, if even for a short while, and the entire system teeters on the brink of collapse? Is there no safety valve? No contingency plan?
I say this wrt to all the bailouts being given out and news reports that football clubs may go completely bankrupt if staff isn't laid off and players take wage cuts.

While it makes sense for the smaller clubs, how elite clubs can't manage the situation with relative ease and
why elite players can't take pay cuts is beyond me. They act like they've been living paycheck to paycheck for years. (That paycheck being at least a weekly £100k) It just doesn't make any sense.
For these clubs to furlough their staff is outrageous and I, of course have LFC in mind. There was minimal outrage, and now I see all fans are back to speculating over who the next big signing will be. As you were.

So these clubs will pay top dollar for the next big talent in
the game but can't pay their staff beyond a few weeks (even if, hopefully, a short term measure).

How anyone can continue to blindly support these mammoth capitalist entities is beyond me. The sport, itself, and the people who support their clubs are an afterthought.
