This is a part of the Tos of @Respondus, a software used to take written tests online. Respondus uses AI to analyze your video and audio streams looking for suspicious behaviors of the student. The software also locks your computer entirely. /1
My University, Politecnico di Torino, has announced the intention to use this software to complete the exams that were delayed due to #COVID19 lockdown here in Italy. Couple of things are worrying us student, and the main one is written in the previous tweet. /2
The system claims to store video (and data in general) of students taking exams for a year. Not just that: they don& #39;t guarantee removal of all traces regarding the data. Eventually they can modify, copy and transmit the informations or data. /3
Another very big problem is the economic weight that this software will put on the people that could not be able to afford a new webcam (is the AI good enough to not be tricked by some old webcam, maybe flagging some false-positive?),new mic or pc. /4
We are waiting to hear back from the University. We know times are difficult but we can& #39;t let our privacy go and we have to let everyone to be able to study and be tested fairly.
