Sure, there has been a lot of confusion since the job retention announcement. But there are already shitty companies out there who are trying to trick their employees into breaking furlough rules or leaving them in the lurch. @WiredUK readers shared some horrible stories (1/7)
Laura's employer is despicable. He told her to carry on working through furlough and said she will be "paid on the side". All of her colleagues are still working. He said "we can either keep clients happy or I can make everyone redundant". (2/7)
Curtis is one of the thousands of people who lives off commission. He has a base annual salary of ÂŁ10,000 per year. His company has furloughed him and wants to pay him ÂŁ833 per month. He had no idea whether this is fair and what he should do (3/7)
Kirsty was meant to start a new job on April 6, but her start date has been pushed back. Her old company is refusing to furlough her, and her new company can't help. There is brand new advice from the government on everyone who is falling through the gap on this (4/7)
Chris was among the 150 + employees that were made redundant at his company last week after a consultation that started in November of last year. As finding new work is impossible, they begged their company to rehire them and put them on furlough. No luck. (5/7)
Another đź’© of an employer here: Steve's partner was told to volunteer to work during furlough "lest they look at redundancies" and decide who stays at the business when this is all over. They claim she should work as they pay her (but they will claim this expense back) (6/7)
