i think ppl who say "why aren& #39;t villagers mean anymore like they were in the old games :(" fail to understand that a lot of that rude dialogue is upsetting to young kids and literally every person i& #39;ve met who grew up with the GC game recalled at least one time it made them cry
animal crossing& #39;s prime demographic is children, particularly young children. that means, as a game that is a *life sim*, it has an obligation to try to present positive role models.
having a hissy fit and having a guilt trip because someone said they can& #39;t do a favor for you is unhealthy, toxic behavior.
stealing items from people unwarranted is unhealthy, toxic behavior.
children are incredibly impressionable and seeing a villager calling them fat and stupid (both of which are pretty ableist and were crossing the line even back in 2002) is going to not only deeply upset, but ensure they& #39;ll call someone those things when they want to hurt them
i cannot emphasize enough that the prime demographic for animal crossing is young children, not the twenty-somethings (guilty here) that grew up with previous titles.

i think enough children are bullied and stressed out enough by the real world to also endure it in a video game
if you think you can come up with some rebuttal as to why villagers in animal crossing should be allowed to call you fat and stupid, i would love to hear it, and i& #39;m only being somewhat sarcastic
i& #39;d also like you to view it through the lens of you not being the target demographic, because you aren& #39;t. i think a lot of nintendo fans don& #39;t realize their games are made for children first and foremost and not grown adults who write essays on AC and bullying on twitter at 7 AM
hey folks, thanks for all the kind messages and feedback on this thread, i never expected it to get 100(!!!!) retweets. however, for the sake of my notifications, i& #39;m going to mute the thread. thanks all!
Popping in again to give a big thank you to everyone spreading this tweet around and providing some really positive feedback, even those who don& #39;t necessarily agree! This is the first "big" tweet I& #39;ve gotten that didn& #39;t have a toxic comments section, so I really appreciate it https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="❤️" title="Red heart" aria-label="Emoji: Red heart">
i think people are misconstruing me saying "i don& #39;t think villagers should be calling you fat and stupid" as "i don& #39;t think villagers should have depth"

one of my biggest criticisms with NH is there& #39;s not enough dialogue, i just don& #39;t think that dialogue should be cruel
and, again, i think people should stop viewing the games through the lens of a twenty-something and remember that these games are for children. People are calling me a snowflake in the comments like the mean comments offend me, lmao. It& #39;s a children& #39;s game my dude. For kids.
People are getting very upset over my overall pretty mild take that maybe it& #39;s a good thing the NPCs can& #39;t bully you so I& #39;m just going to remind you this: i am not nintendo and did not make the game or the decision to remove characters insulting you
I& #39;ve been going through my replies to try to reply to some of the tweets that provided constructive feedback, but twitter only lets me go down so far!!!
