why college board hates international schools
~a thread by maya~
so i go to the American School in Japan and my classmates and I have a theory that college board does not give a fuck abt international students or schools
this mainly sprouted from years of testing where it seemed that ap testing was much harder at international schools (we take different tests than the US ones bc of time zones usually) and specifically the SAT. I took the SAT once in the US and once in Japan and omg the one in
Japan was so incredibly hard, and even though I scored higher, it was much more difficult and the high score could be accounted for bc I took the SAT in the US during Oct of my Junior year and I didn’t study for it and I studied for the Japan one and took it during my senior year
besides it was only like a 20 pt difference in each category. any e way what really made me believe this theory is ap testing and specifically with this years COVID modifications to the test it was easy to see the college boards bias towards international schools.
because of online schooling and schools closing the college board modified ap testing so it can be taken at home, but still encourages academic honesty. So i’m in three ap classes this year: ap european history, ap literature, and ap calculus ab and all of them have been
shortened and changed depending on the class and college board also decided that for academic security they would only have one test, and one makeup for each test at the same exact time all around the world
so these are the exam times for this years 2020 ap exams
as you can see that i have written down but ap testing for me this year takes place at 1am, 3am, and 5am japan time, that’s right IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FUCKING NIGHT
my ap calc exam is to take place at 3am, my ap lit exam 3am the next day, and my ap euro exam at 5am the same day as lit. College Board does not give a single fuck that after a year of studying and taking the exact same class that kids in public schools back in the US take we are
getting totally screwed over by being forced to take it at 3 and 5 am in the morning. either way we try to wake up will not produce the most efficient testing environment, attitude, or mental state that will promote good results. whether we sleep all night and wake up at 2am to
take our test or we stay up all night either way it is promoting sleep deprivation when they literally tell students to get a good nights sleep the night before ap testing. Well how the fuck am i supposed to do that if you make my ap exam in the middle of the fucking night?
my international school and obviously others around the world have reached out to college board about these less than favorable testing conditions and they have not provided anything more than basically a “that sucks” bc they claim the test needs to all be at the same time for
academic honesty when in reality it would not be that hard to make a separate test as years prior for ap students hindered by international time zones. in fact, it would actually help ap because having everyone take it at once is likely going to be a lot for their system to take
so making another testing date for international students would actually be favorable because it would be no different than the testing in that past few years. Lastly, this is a major problem for international students wishing to go to college back in the states because this
test is the main way to receive college credit going into freshman year of college, personally I will save nearly 8,000$ in class fees my freshman year if I receive a 3 on all my tests or above, so if we have less than fortunate testing conditions like in the middle of the night
that will hinder our ability to perform to our highest level of learning and it seems that college board doesn’t care one bit. my international school has reached out expressing disappointment and other sentiments, but the response from college board has been that it is the only
way for academic integrity to stay intact for this years unique testing situations with regards to the COVID-19 pandemic, when in reality it is just one more way for the college board to show that they don’t care about international schools or their students
what do you think?
