So here's something interesting. Investors consider Gold as a "safe haven" asset. It retains it's value and doesn't crash even during global financial crashes. For example in this pandemic, gold has actually gained 7% since Jan 1,2020. So ok, gold is an asset, one of the most
>important assets, then who owns it? Well the total amount of gold in the world is estimated at 175000 to 190000 tonnes. One would think that countries would own most of this gold and yeah, that's about right but not really. So here are the statistics from an IMF report.
Kha de porey kho thek da. But looking at this chart, one sees that it can't account for ALL the gold in the world. Well some of it is held by industries (12%) and others by gold traders(19%). But we still have about 50% gold unaccounted for. So who owns that?
So this is where it gets interesting. 44 percent of all gold in the world is held as jewelery at people's homes. Well not all of it, you'll see. If we breakdown that data, we see thay India has by far the largest private ownership of gold. It is estimated that India owns>
>approximately 22000 tonnes of gold dwarfing every other nation and holding. It is nearly worth 1 trillion dollar. That's 1 followed by 12 zeroes, DOLLARS! Now most of this gold is stashed in Indian temples that the devotees have donated, usually royal families of the old states.
In 2011, the Indian supreme court ordered to break down a temples store over a dispute and guess how much gold was in one vault? Gold worth 22 Billion dollars!!!! These numbers are staggering. One vault!
So what do these temples do with the gold? They sell them of course. Auction them, upto 4 times their price because the Hindu devotees consider it holy gold. But now there's modi, he's thinking how do we use this gold? Guy's smart, you gotta give him that. He gives them a program
It's called gold 4 gold. The temples gives their gold to banks, who melt it and put it to use and pay the temples interest in gold, not money. This is because the temples still nees gold to sell. Why not money? Because then the devotees wouldn't be able to buy gold.
So, now you know this. I don't know how this information helps anybody but i thought it was mucho interesting :/
