sh¡t like this always makes me wonder what oikawa would have been like on a truly skilled and competitive team bc atsumu had osamu (arguably as good if not better) and inarizaki (implied to be highly competitive at nationals) to help push him further as a player https://twitter.com/redluxite/status/1246650293208510466">https://twitter.com/redluxite...
but oikawa& #39;s beautiful, stubborn, immovable pride — his worthless pride — made him choose seijoh, made him choose iwaizumi, bc he wanted that victory on his own terms. he wanted to prove it doesn& #39;t take a collection of handpicked high-level players to win.
he said no, these players are still worth the effort, the acknowledgement; this team is good and i& #39;ll make them better (all setters are self-centered in some way, really).
oikawa was a skilled player trying to lift his teammates. atsumu was a skilled player demanding his teammates match him. if oikawa had been more selfish on the court — if he& #39;d been more selfish about volleyball — if he& #39;d demanded like kageyama had — how different would things be?
but i guess in a way oikawa didn& #39;t believe he was "talented" enough to demand the sort of selfish plays that kageyama and ushijima (and atsumu) did. but that& #39;s a big part of what i love about him. his strength (work ethic, determination) enables his biggest flaw (insecurity)
and holds him back on the court. aaaaaa what a wonderfully complex character furudate has created in oikawa tooru. how do you not love him.
