"Through Nightgowns I understood, in the deepest way possible, what it meant to find queer family and to be protected and nourished by it." Ive never heard a quote that’s so real, I used to stay up until 3/4am every nightgowns show to watch a livestream and get to experience it,
Through that I came to know and love and who are now my queer family and some of the best people in my life. I was lucky enough to experience nightgowns in London when it showed and it really showed me what the community was like first hand.
It was after nightgowns in London and after I experienced what it felt like to be in this safe queer space that I felt like it was okay to admit to myself that, I might be gay and being in that room, watching all those performers made me feel like I could say that to myself.
Then seeing the show in Brooklyn, in its own space was a sort of out of body experience at first, seeing and being in this venue Id only ever known through a screen was surreal but felt kinda like I knew it? Idk but it was so nice to be there finally with the people I’d know and
Came to love and felt safe with, all these people who at one point were a twitter handle or an Instagram name that all used to be at nightgowns or on the instalives when they played in the late nights, it was kinda a full circle moment for me.
Nightgowns was the first space to make me feel like it was okay to be queer, were I could be truly myself and authentic, which I learned to do everyday. The cast and crew have all in their own way made me feel like it’s okay to exist in this big world and a version of myself, I
