If your sleep is wild at the moment--trouble falling asleep, staying asleep, intense dreams, sleeping a lot, never feeling rested, etc.--that& #39;s common for people processing extreme situations and traumatic experiences. Plus the general upheaval of life right now.
I& #39;m also noticing that I& #39;m hitting cognitive overload much faster. Partly from being busy, but specifically busy with novel situations and having to respond quickly in ambiguity in my personal AND professional life, which is a lot. Reaching exhaustion quickly these days.
The burn-out factor is real, even for folks who might be doing "less", when the overall context is so much stress and uncertainty. And sufficient sleep and rest are linked to health in so many ways. Get as much good sleep as you can. https://www.sleepfoundation.org/sleep-guidelines-covid-19-isolation">https://www.sleepfoundation.org/sleep-gui...
This is also another factor in the inequitable pandemic experience. Structural inequality--whose labour is more exploited and underpaid, who is subjected to more stress and trauma, who is denied access to adequate care and social safety--all affect access to good sleep.
OH. And sleep disruptions/trauma symptoms can happen on a delay too. Sometimes your body won& #39;t start to process the trauma while you are in the threatening situation, so it can feel like it& #39;s coming out of nowhere once you are finally in a position of relative safety.
As a teenager, I spent an entire summer having almost hallucinatory levels of sleep disruption. I had no idea why for the longest time because there was no immediate safety threat later understood that I was suddenly processing years of built-up childhood trauma in one go.
I also developed bad teeth grinding during this time which is an ongoing dental issue for me. If you have a nightguard, wear it. If you find you& #39;re waking up with a sore jaw, you can get basic nightguards at pharmacies usually, since we don& #39;t have access to dentists right now.
