Mmmm some folks hate cis men so much they think masculinity is inherently evil and dirty and yaknow imma go out on limb here and say that cultural association is bad
Like it’s bad for trans men, cis men, even I think trans women, AMAB NB folks, and gnc AFAB people ( tho in a different way, being read masculine vs associating with a male identity, if that makes sense)
Like I talk w my GF about it a lot, and how uncomfortable and impacted she was growing up AMAB with that association, how it still clings to her.
I’d pitch the hypothesis that part of the reason (at least to me, anecdotally) I know more non-binary trans men than binary trans men, unlike trans women (or at least women comfortable ID’ing with binary women hood) is that masculinity and pride in masculinity in queer spaces...
Is treated the way it is. The “acceptable” forms of queer masculinity is unachievable for many trans men. And to a large degree, gnc among men is often mocked or associated with some sort of scummyness.
I was watching a YouTubers video recently (straight trans woman) about why she doesn’t often find trans men attractive, the reason being that she was only attracted to “manly men” and men who presented feminely weren’t interesting to her. And yaknow I’ve just been thinkin
I think feelings of ugly ness and undesirability are a big fuel for trans masc ppl that choose to destransition, i know for me it’s one of my biggest fears. AFAB people are so indoctrinated to our worth being tied to our bodies sexiness as a woman’s body, and it’s inescapable.
