A week ago, I pointed out I do not see strong evidence for #hydroxychloroquine for #COVID19. The evidence is *still* not there.

At the same time, people imagine a rift in #coronavirus treatment options between Fauci and Trump that just isn't there. (thread)
There are two ways to look at any problem as a scientist. There's the scientific approach, which is good but often enough a little too late. As scientists, we want to be 100% sure. And there's the practical approach, where 80% today is superior to 100% in a year.
#Hydroxychloroquine can be a very dangerous medication. I have opposed unjustified prescriptions of it as it puts not only the recipient at risk but also patients who depend on it. That said, when correctly monitored (telemetry or baseline & +6h 12 lead ECGs minimum), it's safe.
In the end, they can both be right: we might not have the strong evidence we'd like for HCQ, but running large scale trials is the only way we'll find out. And for that, we desperately need to put the political nonsense around HCQ to bed, stat.
Every time I say HCQ lacks evidence, I'm a deep state plant. Every time I point out that we do have some evidence in support that can justify a trial, I'm a Trumper. You can't do proper science like that. Both sides, get out. Go do this elsewhere & let us do the science already.
Things are tough enough for us in this line of work. The last thing we do is having to filter every word because someone is going to slot it into their rhetoric. And no, neither side has been better than the other. This is why I'm glad I loathe politics. Can we just do our jobs?
