For me:

It didn’t take the coronavirus to know how incredible nurses are. I live with one. My wife’s a nurse in one of our city’s largest ERs.

She’s my hero. And a hero to so many she selflessly cares for. 1/
I don’t think most people understand how hard their job is. Physically/emotionally/spiritually.

They are on their feet 12 hours per shift. Many times w/out a single break. No time for food or chit chat. My wife tracks her steps w/ her watch. 7 miles a day on avg. 2/
They’re constantly put into traumatic situations. Fighting to save the lives of those put in their care. Most times they do. Other times, there’s nothing they can do. Those nights are the hardest. 3/
The nights she stays in her car to cry. Not telling me until weeks later. Because she doesn’t want me to worry. But I do.
4/
Nurses are Godsends put on this earth to selflessly care for us at our lowest moments. And they do it in many cases while being underpaid, and overworked. But they keep going back. They keep caring for us. 5/
And now, our country, can’t seem to be able to protect them in the time they need us most. That’s tragic. It angers me. It saddens me. It frustrates me. And it should you too. 6/
Nurses and doctors across our country are dying from COVID19 bc they aren’t being given the PPE needed to protect them against this virus. The viral overload is making some of them very ill. 7/
I just keep asking the same questions over and over in my head; “How are we allowing this in America? The richest country on earth. Why are people not making a bigger fuss about this? Why is this not the main thing?” 8/
Through all this, my wife channeled her own frustration into action. She connected with a group at @help_hospitals. Their mission as a non profit is to raise awareness and funds, so to supply hospitals the PPE they need.
9/
They’ve delivered 10s of thousands of approved masks to multiple hospitals around the US, and actively working to do more. She and the team are doing the work America was supposed to do for them. It’s not the end solution, but they’re making a difference. 10/
How can we make a difference? Spread awareness. Tell your family and friends who don’t know. Find reliable charities to donate to. Put pressure on your local officials. Or if you have other ideas, share them here. 11/
