#Hydroxycloroquine This "benign" drug has an impressive list of medication interactions and side effects. It interacts with many commonly used blood pressure medications, oral hypoglycemics (diabetes meds), antidepressants and many others.
This "benign" drug can cause diarrhea, nausea, stomach cramps, vomiting, nightmares, psychosis, seizure, sensorineural hearing loss.
And how about the blood disorders: anemia, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia. Very very serious problems, those. Like no red blood cells (nothing to carry oxygen around the body), no white cells (= no immune system), no platelets (blood won't clot).
Then there's weakness and atrophy of large muscle groups, irreversible vision loss, some very serious skin diseases (you don't want to see those pictures).
Last but no least: the heart. Hydroxychloroquine can cause "direct myocardial toxicity or exacerbate underlying myocardial dysfunction (magnitude: major)" (American Heart Association).
Cardiac arrhythmias. Ventricular, the dangerous kind. This is not a healthy EKG.
But if people want medical advice not from doctors and medical researchers, but from a real estate salesman turned game show host - so be it.
The medical professionals will be there to pick up the pieces, if there are any left to pick up.
