After a few days with it I'm really glad I only spent $9 on Battlefield 1. @EA_DICE essentially made a demo proving they have they talent to make a great war game, but then they just didn't.
It's a shame, because video games have gotten to the point where they can be a unique and compelling storytelling medium, and there's a roadmap here of how to do it, but no one followed it.
Just look at Red Dead Redemption. It's ten years old and like $99 on PSN. And people will pay it, because the story is amazing. It advanced the entire medium. It's a classic because it tells a story.

Battlefield 1 is almost four years old and $9 was a little high.
Also I've tried multiple times to get into Skyrim and I just can't so maybe my opinion on games is just an outlier.
