The reason you know Biden won because of the media narrative is that he was behind, and then the media narrative became very favorable to him, and suddenly he was ahead. It’s not complicated. The same thing happened to Warren and Bernie earlier in the race, just at the wrong time
People have spent the last month trying to explain how Biden turned it around so fast, and the main non-media explanations (“Clyburn is a wizard” and “He was secretly winning all along but polls are all lies”) don’t make sense. SOMETHING changed a lot of minds in four days
What could have changed so many minds? Well, maybe it’s that voters, by their own account, were paying close attention to the primary, the main way to pay attention is through media like MSNBC, and those outlets got very positive on Biden right after SC? Seems pretty logical, no?
Nate agrees with me! Biden got a ton of favorable media that swung the vote for Biden going into Super Tuesday. This is my point. https://twitter.com/NateSilver538/status/1246943690435813377
This isn't a conspiracy theory that the media stole the primary for Biden. My point is that media narratives reach A LOT of voters and change minds very quickly. Yes, there are precursors to those narratives, but the narratives are the proximate cause. https://twitter.com/Leipapalooza/status/1246951534941921280
PEOPLE ON TWITTER: oh my god it's so disrespectful to say Democratic voters are influenced by television!
