I've not watched it. I won't watch it. But, I've seen an unsettling shift in the public conscious where ppl have abandoned the "innocent until proven guilty" in favor of "guilty until proven innocent" which is really dangerous. https://twitter.com/hankgreen/status/1246927262881943552
I think all of these True Crime shows, movies, documentaries, & podcasts play a big part in this, too. B/c a lot of them, especially the podcasts, present themselves as regular ppl, no law degree or anything, solving the case. Often "solving" an unsolved case.
Cases that are unsolved b/c their might not be enough tangible evidence to convict. But, the general public, the people who eat up these True Crime entertainment entities, are ready to convict & lock away someone on mere circumstantial evidence. Or even no evidence just a "vibe"
Someone makes an accusation against someone, & everyone is like "OH MY GOD Can you believe so & so did THAT" even though nothing's been proven. They don't want the trial. They want the conviction. B/c a trial might prove them wrong.
It sends a chill down my spine everytime someone says, without actually saying the words, that someone is guilty until proven innocent.
I don't even know if this thread makes sense. But. Yeah. I wonder if @hankgreen will actually read this thread that's in response to his tweet.
