Tiger King thread: episode 1- Something to take away- Big Cat Rescue is a completely different operation than a roadside zoo. They need money to feed/house/entertain tigers they rescue from private operations, so of course they’re going to need money.
Also, that “cage” they showed at Big Cat Rescue was not the cage the animal lives in. It’s a a shift cage. This is where sanctuaries feed animals & place them to clean their cages. Wild animals should NOT eat in the same shift cage (or large cage) as another animal.
All of Joe’s tigers were fed together in the same cage. This is a big no no. For one, tigers are solitary animals that usually have ranges of 400m^2. Two, they can really hurt each other trying to compete for food. Just.....no.
Episode 2: endangered animals will NOT be saved by continuous breeding which only puts them in horrible backyard situations with many ppl giving them up/killing them when they get too big. This is common sense. Wtffffff
Conservations organizations are the good guys here. Not exotic animals breeders 🙄🙄🙄
Also want to point out that sanctuaries usually can’t afford lots of staff because animal care is so expensive. Very common for volunteers to run them. Of course it’s not super ideal, but neither is getting paid 100 a week and joining a cult either LMAO
Honestly so sickened by how many baby tigers I’m seeing. I know damn well 80% of them were given to shitty homes that don’t know how to take care of these animals. The other 20%, likely dead.
P.s. there’s multiple reasons that Big Cat Rescue is an accredited sanctuary. Look them up. Not gonna go into details, but their cages are MUCH better equipped for these big cats than Joe’s or Doc’s are (even if they seem a bit small to the onlookers).
Episode 3: Carole Baskin is definitely sketchy. It’s true. Her past doesn’t do her any justice whatsoever, that’s for damn sure lol
Big Cat Rescue as it’s own entity though is still an important place for conservation & from an animal welfare point of view, is very great and super important for big cats in the U.S.
