What can you do when your fertility clinic is barely open? Lots of things!!
Although we aren't starting new IVF cycles and severely limiting our services, we are full steam ahead with telehealth conferences. Some things we do:
Plan your care. We can review your history and testing so far and recommend low exposure testing and treatments for you. Sometimes we have to get creative but I have yet to tell a patient there is nothing she can do.
Discuss COVID19 and pregnancy. We can provide the newest, most up to date info available to you. You can plan your pregnancy in the safest possible way.
Finance consults. IVF ain't cheap. But we can still explore your insurance and financing options, get started on prior authorizations and give you a chance to save up for your treatment.
Nurse consults. If you are doing IVF, egg freezing, donor egg, gestational carrier, or planning to donate your eggs, we can still start that process.
There is a fair amount of education and front-end work that we can still tackle. Out IVF and donor egg nurses are here to hrlp you plan and organize your cycle.
Maximize your own health. In a world where so much is out of our power, isn't it nice to have something that is 100% under your control to do? If you smoke, you will be advised to be smoke-free for several months before your cycle. Guys too!
Most clinics have a BMI cutoff due to the nature of egg retrievals and anesthesia staffing. If you are outside this limit, use this time. The same is true for diabetes and hypertension which must be well-controlled before your cycle.
If necessary, this is also a great time to meet with your PCP or maternal fetal medicine specialist by telehealth, of course!
Sometimes, we recommend vaccination for chicken pox, MMR, and of course, the flu. Vaccines are a low-exposure treatment and some need to be completed at least 1 month before pregnancy.
We are here to help you hit the ground running once you can start your treatment. Call us! Let's make a plan together!
This beautiful poster was created by students at the School of Visual Arts in NYC for a class taught by Haviv, Cermayeff, and Geisner. I posted it to honor those HCWs who are fighting COVID19 in NYC and elsewhere. If you know where it can be purchased, please comment!
