If you’re going out on grocery runs, or even just walks for exercise. When you get home, immediately wash your hands and wrists before touching anything in your home. If you were carrying your phone around while out, wipe down your phone with a disinfectant.
If you carried a purse or bag while out, wipe those down too. Keep your keys in a spot by the door that you designate as a “contaminated zone” which basically means that if you touch anything in that zone, you immediately wash your hands after.
I consider my front door handle and door locks, as well as my keys, key tray and backpack all a part of that “contaminated” zone since those are the things I’ve touched prior to getting to the sink at home to wash my hands, and I pretty much only touch those things to go outside.
I keep my shoes at the front door (something I’ve always done anyways) and while I do wipe down my backpack once I’ve gotten in, I don’t take it to the sink area and set it down where I keep my wipes - I take the wipes to my backpack once I’ve washed my hands.
Once I’ve washed my hands, I put all clothing I wore outside into a pile on my basement stairs and then I wash my hands again BEFORE getting into new clothes. This is an important step!
If you undress, using your hands to take the “outside” clothes off, then get dressed in fresh clothes without washing your hands, you risk transferring those germs from the “outside” clothes directly onto your fresh clothes, which you’ll then transfer onto things you sit on, etc
I know it’s a hassle and seems like a big production to have to go through any time you go out, but cross contamination is the easiest way to spread the virus and it’s extremely underestimated.
