Bad news out of #Colorado. On Friday, the PD’s office, the defense bar, & @CivRightsCorps filed an urgent petition w/the CO Supreme Court urging the justices to take action to spur decarceration in the face of #COVID19. The Court denied the petition right away./1

No dissents. No explanation. /2

What the petition asked for wasn’t unprecedented – courts in CA, KY, MA, MT, NJ, OH, & SC have taken similar action. To be clear, none of them have gone far enough. But at least they acknowledge the humanitarian crisis of incarceration during a pandemic./3

This is a moment to recognize not only the brutality of the carceral state, but the failure to mitigate that brutality on the part of so many officials with the power to help #LetThemGo #FreeThemAll./4
