Thinking a lot about shame and shaming this week, its function in society and its inevitable misapplication

I mean, shame to disincentivize socially undesirable behavior makes sense. But how much of it becomes about the shamer feeling good? About themselves & their own choices?
Maybe the two are inextricable. I dunno.
