Every day I read tweets about how terrible the modern food supply is.

Yet before its advent, right now was a time of the year called the ‘hungry gap’, where winter stores were running low and spring crops not around yet.
Many people would be reduced to wading into ice-cold streams to harvest watercress, one of the few edible things around.

It was called ‘poor man’s bread’ as those with little else would be forced to base their diet on it to repress hunger pangs.
The fact that I can wander into a supermarket, in the middle of near global lockdown, and be faced with bewildering choice is a miracle.

A miracle achieved by farmers, scientists, truck drivers & shelf stackers, many more who never get credit.

Thank you all for your work.
Those who think modern food is terrible:

Consider whether you are able to do so thanks to privilege. A privilege made possible by the very food supply that is so often taken for granted.

(And, yes, this thread is coz I did get a bit emotional in the supermarket again today.)
