Ok. Going to an official BSG rewatch thread.
I’ve said it before, I know, but Six walking in and saying “are you alive?” as the very first line is such a perfect encapsulation of the whole show.
Super fun to spot Cylons ahead of the reveals.
The guy just said “ok Boomer”

This show was so ahead of its time.
Had to pause halfway through miniseries but they hooked.
It continues!
Mum, after Lee’s thermonuclear moment: “well that’s a bit of a coathanger!”
Recurring character actor extraordinaire Callum Keith Rennie! (Watch Harper’s Island, my dudes)
Wish I’d captured the expressions of the fourth Cylon reveal. SO HARD not to give anything away.
It’s 33 time! For my money, one of the best episodes of television ever made.
It’s just an astonishing exercise in tension, despair, and ultimately hope. The first two might outweigh the last, but it’s still there. Briefly.
They said only one more episode today. Forgot eps 4 and 5 are two parters didn’t I? 4 was that one more ep. Whoops.
“It’s Starbuck! ... It’s written under the frakking wings!”

Lee’s laugh when he realised it’s Starbuck in the raider is just the best.
I sometimes forgot just how big BSG swings went it comes to pot shots at post-9/11 America. An episode showing the uselessness of torture just months after the Abu Ghraib violations came out in the press.
The Hand of God. I adore this episode.
In what might be my nerdiest admission yet, I am *fascinated* by battle tactics (to the point where my dad and I used to discuss how to attack castles we visited, debated historical battles etc. Remember Time Commanders? The dream)
So the attack on the Cylon base is basically catnip. It’s an entire episode of tactics and people executing their roles to the best of their ability with such flair.
“Tell Apollo the back door is open”
Finishing up the first season tonight. I had forgotten how bloody infuriating the Apollo/Starbuck tension is.
So THAT moment in the finale just happened.
I would love to do a proper deep dive into the show’s symbolism, repurposing of earth mythology and religious traditions. One of the show’s successes is how real that civilisation of humanity feels. There’s a depth there.
The old stories, the prophecies, the tensions between the colonies, political debates, the sports, the games, even right down to the technology used and why it’s not as advanced as it perhaps should be. It’s all right there to make it all feel dynamic and tangible.
Season 2!
Haven’t mentioned the music yet have I? Bear McCreary is a whizz if ever a whizz there was.
Every time something bad happens, Ma says “oops.” If you know this show, you can well imagine how often this is.
“I have declared martial law”
Ma: “Oops”
Might start tracking the oopses.
And we’re back. Will let you all know if there’s an oops.
PS Tigh is still a douche.
The marines opening fire on the protestors: “Oops”
Starbuck ships. I know where my vote goes (Lee “Daddy Issues” Adama)
Lee and Kara’s first kiss! Lee and Kara IMMEDIATELY falling out!
I love the documentary episode. I love its ending especially.
Oh my gosh I’d forgotten they named the Blackbird Laura and now I’m have a little weep.
Ah the Pegasus. Another big swing at US military, erm, tactics.
“To be continued...”
Jake: “Oh FUCK”
Adama and Roslin 💔
Black Market episode.
(I did forewarn them)
I can see what they’re trying to do in a BSG Noir style, but they pick the wrong character to do it with. Apollo is too clean cut for a Bogie type. It needed to be Starbuck. She’s ready made to be the gnarly PI type. Lee? Not so much.
Introducing an escort character for the femme fatale makes zero sense in terms of the long term series context and for Apollo’s story. A fleet black market is an interesting concept entirely wasted by some dodgy writing decisions.
Also, the whole ex storyline coming out of nowhere is so rubbish.
Oh Billy 💔
Dee and Lee. Ugh. Rhyming couples never work.
I love love LOVE the reveal when you find out Caprica Six sees her own version of Gaius.
I remember commenting during the 2016 election that it felt like the Baltar campaign. I wish I’d been wrong.
Yep. Still hurts to see a competent, capable woman lose to a populist nincompoop.
Welcome to New Caprica, Cylons!
And that means you know who is about to show up... Fat Lee!
SEASON 3!
The human police graduation ceremony = first “oops” of S3
There were three “oops” moments tonight and one “hmmmmm”
Exodus time!
Goodbye Fat Lee. You were brief and magnificent.
Final Five hints are starting to creep in. Eek!
Ah the boxing episode. My poor little shipper’s heart.
“I missed you.”
“I missed you too... I missed you too.”
Back on the BSG train with The Passage. Prep for Emotions.
Oh Kat.
Ma and Bro are trying to guess who the Final Five are and I need some straight face tips.
I tell you what, Baltar’s sense of entitlement and victimhood plays pretty keenly right now.
First “oops” for a while as Callie and Chief get locked in the airlock.
I love a good introspective character episode. Plus, lots of Bill and Lee working out their issues content.
Also Adama and Roslin ❤️
Uh oh. Maelstrom.
Excuse me. I’m just going to go cry a lot.
I’d forgotten how raw the post-Maelstrom grief in this episode is. The scenes between Apollo and Adama are almost painful to watch. They practically scream.
“You don’t hear that song?”

It’s haaaaaappeniiiiiing.
I hate watching the breakdown of Apollo and Adams’s relationship during the trial. And then Apollo and Roslin’s. My heart.
MUM HAS DECIDED TO GO TO BED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CROSSROADS TWO PARTER AND THEY ARE SPECULATING ABOUT WHAT IS NEXT AND I AM STRUGGLING NOT TO SAY ANYTHING.
Crossroads Part II!
“There must be some kind of way out of here”

Me, trying not to react:
Bro guessed one of the Final Five really early but then dismissed it as too obvious. I bit my lip SO hard.
Starbuck’s back, baby.
Awwwww Lee’s retirement parade.
S4 of BSG is so stacked with things that it’s probably the ropiest of seasons, but it’s also intensely fun to watch all of its themes come together in a big, angry mess of religious tension, ethical concerns, and shifting morality.
And also thank you S4 for putting Jamie Bamber in really well cut suits.
First “oops” of the fourth season: Gaeta’s leg incident.
After everything he’s been through, what finally breaks Adama is still heart wrenching.
Second “oops” of the fourth season: landing on Earth.
Oh Dee.
Brother: “Felix, you can be a right dick sometimes.”
Genuinely forgot how angry S4 Gaeta makes me. It’s all understandable. But it’s all so stupid.
Never half-arse a coup, lads.
I think I feel sorry for Helo the most out of everyone. The man never catches a break.
The pace is off in S4. It all feels a bit soupy and dense; the mythology becomes the guide rather than the characters (probably inevitable given the weight of that mythology). I can’t help but love it though.
Daybreak. We’re here. We’re at the end. Though of course with BSG... all of this will happen again.
Kara Thrace has the best “shots!” face.
This all comes together a lot better than I remembered it doing. All of the threads and the consequences.
And it’s such a clever wrap up. Ma and Bro’s face when they saw it was our earth? Priceless.
The BSG message is never going to get old. We’re capable of astonishing things together as the human race. But it falls to shit fast when we’re divided *gestures broadly at everything*
No YOU’RE crying.
“It was nice to meet you, Lee Adama”
Yeah that ending works even better than I remembered. I’d forgotten Mind-Six and Mind-Gaius and their part in it.
So that’s it, folks. Thanks for joining the thread! All of this has happened before. All of this will happen again.
